why I Watched the Royal wedding.
A lot of people watched the Royal Wedding. Some were mocking it; others were in awe. I admit it was a historical moment. As one who grew up under a constitutional monarchy ... it had some connections for me. (And if you been living under a rock I'm talking about the Wedding of Prince William (Grandson of Queen Elizabeth the Second to Kate Middleton)
Here is why I watched:
1. It is culture ... it will be a conversational started and even help point people to Jesus ... how you ask?
Because of the Church aspect; the Royalty aspect and looking forward to the Ultimate Wedding.
2. The Analogy of Christ and His Church.
3. The aspect of Marriage.
4. The dream of Prince Charming and the Princess. Every little girl wants hope ... wants to be that princess.
5. The celebration of a Joyful occasion. Too often we hear bad news, how bad this politician is; how bad that politician is ...isn't it nice to have something positive in the news ... Maybe our news channels need to ACTUAL report the Positive things ...like what the CHURCH is, and Should be doing in their communities being the Hands and feet of Jesus ... (wouldn't that be a change?)
6. It helped one appreciate life. Sure, everyone was watching ..meanwhile people had died (over 300) in the storms in the south. (And people complained about that - yet I don't hear about the over 1400 women die each day ... due to poverty source: http://www.food4africa.org/index.asp?pgid=43 )
7. It gives a Future. Not only a future for the monarchy .... but also hope in our tough times. When we ask people .... did you see the Royal wedding .... we can point them to the ROYAL Wedding of Christ and His Bride.
8. It gives us (as the Church) to be the BRIDE - that Christ would want is to be. (see #2)
9. It gives us opportunity to share scripture. did you know what Kate Middleton's brother was reading? Do you know where that comes from? What book? Who that was written to?
10. And to share stories ...This one wasn't in the PR but was interesting that a former homeless teen was invited to attend.

what about you? did you watch? Not watch? why or why not?

Secular Music that has Influenced me.
So people define things as secular and "Christian" - I try not to differentiate between the two ... but in order to give more of a credit to those artists that might not of been on the CCM (Contemporary Christian Music) scene ...here are some artists that have influenced me growing up:
I. Elvis. My Mom was a big Elvis fan. I knew when he died. Watched his movies.
II. The Beatles. I remember in 8th grade singing: "when I'm 64" and knowing Yellow submarine.
III. Michael Jackson. Whether or not people loved him, or hated him ... Michael was the King of Pop.
IV. Queen. We are the Champions. Bohemian R.
V. Tesla - (Remember the song: Sign, sign everywhere a sign ...)
VI. Aerosmith - Doing an air band of Janie's Got a Gun in High School ... was very amusing ...
VII. Anne Murray. Surprise here ..but as a little kid I still remember the song - You are my sunshine.
VIII. Johnny Cash. My Mom loved Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn, Hank Williams ... I just like Cash's songs.
IX. Rush. Neal Peart. Best Drummer ever. no questions asked.
X. Run DMC ....
Other mentions: AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Fresh Prince,

The Process of Searching for Church Staff.
Several people ask what is the process for a search committee for a minister? Whether it be a full-time, part-time, preacher, youth or whatever.
One of the problems with the search process is also one of the positives - for the church - it is the committee is usually made up of volunteers. Most churches have great volunteers. And that includes your Search Committee. And thus time is very limited, but can be very rewarding.
Here is the process we have looked at for our context.
I. Post Job Description AD on various sites, and colleges ... network, Have a clear written AD with contact info where to submit resume.
II. Review Resumes. (Each resume acknowledge received it, and time frame get back to them)
Like Candidate - send questionaire.
Dislike - send polite no Thank you letter.
III. Questionaire - like answers - committee arranges Skype interview or visit if location allows.
dislike answers - send polite no thank you letter.
IV. Perform Interview or site visit with committee.
- like interview and visit - have applicant complete application to obtain experience profile, social security number for background check and references names and contact information and reference letters. (at least 3)
-dislike interview or visit send a polite, no thank you letter or call for a more personal touch.
V. Complete Background check and References.
- like responses/ references - arrange for visit to church
-dislike responses/ references - send polite, no thank you letter.
Also the candidate needs will have after Questionnaire (Church profile) During interview stage - ask questions about the church, and for this stage needs to ask for our references as well which includes references of other staff, other churches in the area, ministers, and former staff of the church.
VI. Bring for a Visit to the church - the visit will include the candidate staying with members of the church and participating in weekend activities that affect their ministry.
If like the candidate - can discuss an offer (Though in the Interview question stage a salary range will be given)
If concerns with the candidate we will provide that feedback.
VII. Set aside a day to Fast and Pray and a time frame (Usually within a week) to conclude if both parties agree to this being where God would have them to be.
(Some churches vote on their candidate, some their process looks different ... and some even look to hire within ....)

Does God Repent?
Recently I received the following question:
"There are few instances in scripture where God is REPENTANT about a decision He as made.
Gen 6; 1 Samuel 15: 34-35;
What are the implications of such statements; What does it say about God's character; His infallibility; Under what circumstances should God repent?
How do verses/statements such as these impact the doctrine/argument of Predestination?
What is the best (most appropriate) way to approach, understand n explain these passages."
Here is my answer:
I think the word is moreso "Regretted" not "Repented" Repent is seems to imply that you did something wrong and sinned, and need to have a change of heart for the right that leads to a change of action.
The Lord may of regretted a decision made but also because of His Own righteousness ... is able to still live up to his own Character of Holiness. Now dealing with pre-destination (Depending on what side of the Calvinistic bent you are own) it is a biblical concept. One just has to look at it how God sees it. I would differ from my Baptist friends in this ideal, but that is another conversation to be had. The most appropriate way is to explain these passages in their context and what the word cited there means.
Afterwards, I got thinking I don't have to have all the answers. God can change His mind, and doesn't have to answer me. Thus the position of Job God takes. Job asks God, Why? And in Job 38-41 .. God answers and basically says "I'm God, you're not ... I don't have to answer you ..." (Short GMAN Version) Do we, as the indivine understand the Divine? Can anyone understand the mind of God? We are to pursue, seek, trust in Him and thus my own conclusion to the matter.

Here is the criteria I used for these movies.
a. I have seen more than two times.
b. I can quote and act out scenes.
c. It is a classic for a lot of people.
so here they are:
I. Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Classic 80s.
II. The Great Outdoors. Classic John Candy.
III. The Princess Bride. quotable.
IV. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
V. Back to the Future.
VI. Lone Wolf McQuade Classic Chuck Norris.
VII. A Christmas Story. every Christmas Eve - have to watch.
VIII. Field of Dreams.
IX. Mighty Ducks.
X. Rudy.
what are your favourite movies?
Responding to Criticism
There are basically 3 Ways to Respond to your critics.
I. Avoid them.
II. Tackle their issues straight on.
III. Be Diplomatic about it.
I think the first one is discounted. To go ahead and tackle and be defensive about people's concerns might put up some barriers. In all things I think what I call the Matt. 18 principle to be exercised ... Go to the person first bringing the criticism. There is no such than as "Well, people say .." (Who are the people? They need to represent themselves, not be some anon. group to complain to complain). Sometimes leadership means tough choices. As someone mentioned recently to me that leaders don't necessary like change but have to be instrumental in making some tough choices and changes.

Class of 1995 RBC Video
This video was made (with other music of course) about the class I was in. good times.
Hard to believe that it will be 20years ago this Fall that I enrolled as a Freshman there, How the time flies.
A Special Moment.
I had a special moment on Sunday. It was one of the little things. Right before the service, I went to talk to one of our young ladies that was in the hospital recently. I was talking with her Mom. She was in the hospital as a young preschooler. As I went down and was talking with her ...to give her a hug.... She kissed me on the cheek and gave me the biggest hug ever. Isn't that what the church is suppose to be about? Caring, sharing ... and the innocence of little children. Continue to keep her and all our children in your prayers that they might be trusting in the Lord with all their heart.
Top Teachers that have Influenced me.
I. Mr. Martindale. Never forget him showing us his glass eye.

Run With the Horses by Eugene Peterson - A Review
Run with Horses. The Quest for Life at its best. by Eugene H. Peterson Revised and Expanded. This book is an updated version of a spiritual classic. (Though I never read the original 1983). This 2009 edition was more than I expected. It gave a glimpse into what the life of the prophet Jeremiah would be like. At first when I was reading the book I didn't realize it was based upon Jeremiah at first. (I was kind of slow)
I liked that Peterson revised this version and put in some of the passages he used from the Message. The author fills his book with a variety of stories and writings that gives insight into the life of Jeremiah.
Peterson asks a lot of questions throughout the book to get us thinking about life, the journey, and where was God ...
One of the hardest thing about the book is it got dry in some parts. I had to put it down and come back to revisit it. There were lots of quotes, stories, and entangled illustrations that at first didn't make sense. Peterson has some great books out there. For this to be called a classic ... I'm still scratching my head "Why?" Next time I think I might pass reading this book. Only 2.5 out of 5 stars for this one.

Top Post Secondary Education Peers that Influenced me at MACU aka RBC
Here are some of my peers that influenced me during my college years.
I. My wife, Valerie. She is my supporter, encourager, and just loves me for being me.
II. Ben Dahmer (aka Uncle Ben) ... who taught me it was easy to have fun and not just be a clown.
III. Jay Hardison. Leadership.
IV. Davon Huss. - Davon knew about everything. He was a walking online wikipedia. Davon is a scholar.
V. Rick Robie. Taught me about balance. Balancing time with fun, and enjoying life. From Rush, Tetris, to other music styles and studies ... Rick was a busy guy from youth ministry at Geneva.
VI. Melvin Priddy. Taught me about doctrine. He always recited Acts 2:38. Its still there. The importance of the whole Bible and its value.
VII. Joseph Mounts. Joseph and Debbie taught me about appreciation for music and worship. So glad for their family.
VIII. Dewayne Woolard. Was my roomie, encourager, and his family was there to listen.
IX. John Slaydon. Boldness. John was bold. He didn't care what people thought about him. He loved people, God, and did what was best. I needed to be more bold at times like John.
X. Brian Bilodeau. Brian was a spiritual leader. (Still is). If there is ever an example of a godly man and someone I hope my own son, Brian, would be .. would be like him.
XI. Other RBC (MACU) students and alumni - from Jeff Bennett to Tony Wolf, Heather Mooney, Betty, Lori, Michelle (The class of 95) and Allen Byers and all the others ...it was about mentorship. RBC (MACU) was family and still is. Everytime I hear Robert Palmer's song "Addicted to love" I think of the time that Michelle, Sharon and Jen all dressed up like those girls for Halloween. I think of Scotter and Dori when they commuted back and forth to Charlotte every weekend. I think of all the friends, mistakes I made. Most of all I think of how God used MACU to change me.

Top Youth Ministry Bloggers
My friend, and fellow blogger, Bill Nance, has named my blog and others as Top Youth Ministry Bloggers if you don't have his blog on your reader ... you should. Thanks Bill.
Top 13 Peers that Influenced me in High School.
When I was going to high school in the 80s. (We called in Secondary School BTW) I had a lot of different people speak into my life. Here is a glimpse and what characteristic they taught me.
I. Brent Fess (Hard Work) Seeing him work at the Home Hardware. Hanging in there in the midst of tragedy. (We both lost our fathers as young men) and being family (We are 3rd cousins and were in the same grade). Brent spoke volumes in a lot of people's lives.
II. Connie Miller. (sure I had a crush on her as a teen but also know she was a friend). One of the things I appreciate was when she was struggling - she still listened to a geeky, nerdy guy like myself. Her family was very supportive and kind to me.
III. Colleen Brotherton. Colleen was a godly young person. She was living the faith out. If there is anyone I wish my daughters could be like - would be like Colleen. Her family and sister, Carol ... just loved people and loved God.
IV. Tara Lindemann. I saw her as a friend, scholar. If I was just as half as smart as she was ....
V. Scott Murphy. He taught me patience. He was like a gentle giant. He kept me out of trouble. One time broke up a fight I had gotten myself in. Scott and Dale were friends who knew I was a jerk but put up with me anyways.
VI. Mark Butts and James Walton. They taught me tough skin. They sure did pick on me a lot. But boy was I mouthy, and a jerk at times. Deep down I knew these guys cared.
VII. Dwayne Cline. He taught me and showed me leadership. Probably one of the best Student Council presidents.
VIII. Rusty Tousenard. Rusty taught me friendship. Rusty and I had been friends for years (Ever since he knocked me down and gave me a reality check in Kindergartern ... when I was pretending I was the six Million Dollar man ..but that's another story). Rusty and I weren't close in high school but I know his home was always open. I would drop in and just hang out. I was glad Mrs. T's home was like that
IX. Laura Stevens. She encouraged me. Her dad gave me this book, A 1918 version of A History of the Christian Church by Williston Walker (which I still have).
X. Heather Tanner and Family. (Mentorship). I never forget when they planned to move to PEI. The Orange car, being welcome in their home.
XI. Marc Wilkinson - laughter. Marc and I had good times in youth group ... and the plays that Mrs. C. helped direct. I always thought she would almost lose her temper with us but was patient (Very patient) Marc and I had many laughs together.
XII. Daniel Cormode. (Imagination). Daniel and I worked together several years at OCA from counsellors to Kitchen staff. Never forget the "I'm washing the dishes all day" song we made up or the Killer Tuna casserolle, or the Dish Washing Machine turning into a Time machine, or the Rabid skunk ... good times.
XIII. You. From the love support and prayers. From my brothers, Dale Martin, Dean Kindy ..David, Freemans, Wayne, Darlene ... and the many others ...(I think of the Stapletons and Donovans)

Banning Games that are "at Risk"
Seems children's ministry and youth ministry is changing.
The recent news is that New York is considering a ban or rather a warning with camps paying a registration fee for such. How far until this becomes national and in the schools, camps, daycares, churches as well.
I know the book ..Better Safe than Sued ... but where'd some common sense go?
With any game comes risk. With any game there is potential of injury. No common sense thinking child care person should do a game without taking some precautions. Guess that means more waivers, forms, and money shelled out.
What do you think? Ban dodgeball? Tag? How far should we go? Ban chess because it could injury one's fingers? (You know slmaming that timer)

The Lion, the Mouse and the Dawn Treader: A Review.
I admit I'm a big C.S. Lewis fan. Before the books were popular I was reading them. I had several youth ministers as a teen that told me to read these books (Mark Swezy, Bobby Heppner etc). I watched the BBC videos, I saw the animated films ... before the latest movies I was already hooked. Someone gave me this free book so I can use it on my e-reader to review.
One thing about McColman's work is that it is a companion to C.S. Lewis book: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Read that book first before reading this book. (Also don't just watch the movie either - otherwise this book won't make sense too)
What the author does is bring out the spiritual themes that seem somewhat hidden and what CS Lewis was trying to convey through the Voyage of the Dawn Treader and the Christian walk.
I like that Carl McColman doesn't insult our intelligence but rather helps his book be a good resource and companion to helping people see the spiritual themes C.S. Lewis was writing about without just coming out and saying it. Aslan's Table being that of Communion .... that of the end of the voyage ...really wasn't the end but just the beginning ... and that not everyone gets to enter Aslan's country just yet. So many different themes. A good read, and can be done in a short sitting. I give it a 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Top 11 Church Leaders/ Ministers that Influenced me.
Here are some church leaders that took a chance on me - and saw potential in me.
I. Terry Tanner. Along with the elders, and youth ministers that were there ... Terry took a chance on me. Someone, as I was growing up ... I was like Elisha .... if only I could have half or be half the godly man he was. (I know he wasn't perfect ... but do know he loved his family, and loved God ... and boy I wanted to be like that)
II. Scott Jacobsen. His scholarship, being a missionary at first, helping at camp and the vision he had for lost people in the Hamilton area.
III. Nelson Deuitch - Nelson was one of the first ones that took a chance on me teaching. I taught on the story of the James and being patient. This helped shape me in youth ministry - all from a little lesson at camp.
IV. Jim Cormode. Jim's family had an impact. From camp to OCS ...
V. David Dyke. His week's of camp helped challenge, encouage me to be the man of God ..God called me to be.
VI. Monty Smith - their vision to help those who need healing. Thea and Monty were great encouragers.
VII. Mike Siemens. Mike was an Associate at my home church while I was in college struggling. He was a good resounding board.
VIII. Guthrie Veech. - Probably one of the best supporters I had that kept telling me "don't quit" Hang in there. There is grace, forgiveness and God is great. I loved picking his brain, and the short chats we had.
IX. Steve Hill and Richard Clark. Those Youth Ministry classes were probably the most intense I ever had.
X. Ministers I worked with. Each one brought a different perspective in my life. One said to listen, others helped me when I fell short, others on serving, and others to lead. I value each man of God. From Jerry to Roy to Mike, David, and Dan. I enjoyed the men I worked with during my college years who spoke into my life: Louis Styons and Jim Wismer.
XI. Ministerial Groups. From Ohio to Seminary to Richmond, Raleigh and now my current Fusion Group. These groups were more than just a minister's report and comparison. It was a partnership and support group for those in ministry. We prayed together, laughed together, and cried together. I never forget the disc golf, the hurt who one minister in Raleigh's wife's health was declining. A powerful moment when several dozen ministers stood up at Harvey Powell's funeral and the impact of his life had on other ministers. The current Fusion Group I'm a part of that supports and encourages me. I've learned more from these groups in almost all my 4 years of college combined. It was the school of hard knocks.

II. How to write a Great book and get it published. Tom Evans. (Eventually I like to do this but am happy with blogging for now)
III. The Lion, the Mouse and the Dawn Treader. Carl McColman.
Reading also Operations manual for churches.

Influences on My Life: New Blog Series.
So yesterday I talked about Influence of Music that had on my life ... I've been writing some rough draft copies of influences of different people, things, and just plain stuff had on my own life.
Why do this? Well, some people call this the Final week or Holy week or the Passion week of Jesus. It got me thinking ... what if this was my last week of life? Who would I say influenced me? Who helped shape my life? Would I live it any differently? What would I do for Jesus? And so the series begins. (There will probably be other posts mixed in within the Series - the blog series will contain the word "Influenced" within the title)

Christian Artists that have Influenced me.
Music influences. People influence. People ask me now and again; so who is your favourite Christian artists?
Here are the artists that have influenced me .... (And most I have met or been to their concerts as well).
I. Larry Norman. Probably the father of the CCM movement. Got to meet him at Cornerstone.
II. Stryper. Nothing says it better than "To hell with the devil." While my friend, Rusty, was into Iron Maiden, I loved Stryper. (Gotta love 80s metal)
III. Allies. Before "Butterfly Kisses" Allies was it.
IV. David Meece. I never forget trying to sing (and embarrassing myself) one of his songs.
V. Degarmo & Key. The Pledge had impact on my life. (Never forget Marc and I goofing off and Mrs. C rebuking us .... we had a ton of fun but also learned alot)
VI. Amy Grant. (I know, I use to like her music .... later Songs from the Loft ...paved the way to the Passion series)
VII. D.C. Talk - they tried to rap; doing a nu thing; and ended up being Jesus Freaks and doing His will.
VIII. Audio Audrenaline. The songs - get down; Hands and feet; help us focus on the Big house.
IX. Insyders - ska music with the O.C. Supertones and Five Iron. Ska was big. I just liked the Insyders.
X. Acappella - loved the music, and the songs. The album "Fellowship" probably was my favourite.
XI. David Crowder Band. - the whole passion series, and the worship sets helped influence that worship wasn't so much just singing but reflecting who God was.
XII. Sheila Walsh. I know some of you maybe surprised about this. I went to one of her concerts in the 80s ... and thought she was great.
Any others you would add? That influenced you?
Honorable mention: Newsboys, Geoff Moore, Michael W. Smith, Steven Curtis Chapman, Bride, Guardian.
Must have Cables for Ministry
There are a lot of different cables and a lot of different gadgets one uses for ministry.
Here are some Cables I recommend:
1, RCA Video Cable with audio. Connect your TV, dvd, blue ray player etc.
2. Monster Cable for connecting DVD etc to your laptop
3. USB to parallel adapter cable - to run your laptop to a printer.
4. apple Ipod dock to usb cable to charge your mp3 player.
5. 4 port usb connector
6. s video cable - comes in handy.
7. A Capcapture cable or MPT Video/Audio Capture, DVD Maker Adapter - USB-AVCPT alows you to convert your VHS or DVD player to your laptop via usb.
8. Various USB cables and connections from male to male to other inputs of camera etc. Including USB extension cables.
9. Audio Y cable. There have been times when I wanted to play a certain song from my ipod or phone through our sound system.
10. Power cables. Adapters etc. Never anything like your Flip, Ipod, laptop go on the blink than not having the power source.
Any other cables you would suggest?

Fall to Grace by Jay Bakker - A Review.
Sometimes re-discovering something or finding out things the hard way is a part of life. It seems Jay Bakker has learned some things the hard way. If I was going to say anything about this book it seems Jay's story is about how one views God in tough times, relies on God's Grace and see how He (God) transforms people.
From his parents' scandal, to his own messy life, Jay is very frank, honest in his own dealings with life, grace, and how it changed him.
This book is very elementary in its reading, but thought provoking for anyone (Theologian to layperson). Some of his premises I might not agree with (Agree to disagree) but see the need to see people as God would see them.
One of the great things I liked about this book was it gave a raw feeling to those that were disillusioned with the church; and it didn't need to be so. One of the bigger drawbacks of this book was it seemed to deal with one theological issue that the church tends to frown down upon. (and where I would differ somewhat from Jay but also take his passion for taking people where they are).
A short read. If I was to review this I would give a 3.5 out of 5 stars...
(Disclaimer: I received this as a Viral blogger for the ooze.com)

PCs in the Ministry - A Review.
Just finished reading this resource. ever wonder how to use your computer better?
Have problems with doing a podcast? Website or not?
This book looks at technology in ministry. Computers and Worship.
The tools to use. In the communication age and social media. Websites.Podcasts and Videos, computer Bible study, and implementation of all these resources.
This should be a textbook (or the MACs in the Ministry) for every student considering using technology. Each church needs to come up with its own social media policy and what they should or can be doning. The best advice I've been told is to start simple ... don't do everything .... and be authentic. The lists of websites and resources is well worth the book price alone. I'm keeping this resource close by. A 4.5 out of 5 stars.

The new Guidebook for Pastors: A Review.
Just finished this book. Very practical for those of us in ministry. It talks about call, preaching, staff, leadership and more. It even discusses technology and how to deal with certain issues.
The author comes from a Baptist background. Duh, you can read it between the lines. His mentor tends to be Dr. Criswell. The testimony at the beginning of each chapter make it practical. Though the theological differences of a sole pastor, deacon run church seems odd to me and supporting one's denomination.
Overall, if I was teaching a class for young ministers on the Minister and His Work - this would be one text I would recommend any minister both young and old to read. I would give a 4 out of 5 stars.

White Board Fun!
I have recently put a whiteboard in my office. My children enjoy it. They draw pictures, write me messages and really encourage me. They tell stories. (I didn't know Yodi had a brother or Jedi was spelled jeti ....) and mostly tell Valerie and I they love us. I have an open office policy. Anyone is welcome to visit; relax or just chew the fat. Sometimes I don't see how some church leaders can have a closed office and be so isolated. (And yes, there are times when my office door is closed but doesn't mean I don't welcome visitors) So what do you children do to encourage you?

Heaven or Hell.
Seems there is a lot of talk about Rob Bell's Love Wins ... Universalism and whether hell exists. (I'll not get into Rob's book debate because I haven't read it)
Here is what I do know.
I. Heaven is real.
II. It gives us hope.
III. We all deserve to goto Hell.
IV. Hell is real.
V. If Hell wasn't real, there would be no need for Jesus' atonement and redemption and then our preaching would be foolishness.
VI. Unfortunately not everyone is going to heaven.
VII. Fortunately not everyone is going to hell either.
VIII. It leaves one with a dilemna that preaching and sharing Jesus with others is urgent. Jesus died for everyone but not everyone is going to follow Him.
IX. Thus discipleship is a must. It is about Changed lives. the Hope, Grace that God gives us.
X. It is that through God's peace, that there is also a demand for justice. If there was just peace there would be no need for God's grace and love of giving up His Son for us to satisfy His justice, and wrath as well.
In a nutshell, it means we have a lot of work to do. Let's get sharing Jesus with others.

One of the First Million.
Turns out I'm 965 150 in fact. Linkedin has been an interesting site for professionals. They even referenced me as an early adopter that lead the way. Citing they are "Changing the lives of millions of members by helping them connect with others, find jobs, get insights, start a business and much more." (March 25 email from Reid Hoffman Co-founder and Chairman Linkedin)
I got thinking: Isn't that what the Church is suppose to be doing? Changing lives, helping others, connecting them with others and with God? give insights, even help find a job, and much more ... Seems to me that a lot of social media, government etc. is replacing ultimately what the church should be doing in the first place. Perhaps that is just me.

Pointing out the Issues at "Other Churches"
Ah, the good ole comparison game. Remember middle school or better yet elementary school? Well, my dad can beat up your Dad ... or my toys are better than yours. Or comparing apples to oranges. Or if the train arrives at 4pm from NY and another arrives from Philly at 8pm ..How old am I? Its all crazy.
Well, it seems we've come to that in churches too. So how big is your youth group? How big is your church? I hear Such and Such church has gone liberal or isn't preaching the truth. I hear that this church down the road is growing because they are just tickling other people's years.
Here's some advice: STOP IT!!!!! Stop complaining. Stop comparing. Stop pointing out what you think other churches are doing. (Most who do this don't know first hand, and yes I'm guilty of this too) who appointed you judge and jury? God is the ultimate Judge. (I'm so glad He is too)
If we're so busy doing the work God has called us to do where we are, we won't have time to point out the flaws of other "Churches." Seems people just want to complain and moan without having a basis or backbone to going to those church leaders first.
Next time you hear someone complain (let's be real and call it what it really is ...Gossip) about another congregation, tell them to stop. Pray for that church. Pray for your church. That the church would be doing what God has called us to do.
Let's stop with the Middle School Antics. Afterall, we're the Bride of Christ; there are bigger battles to wage than to point out the speck in a brother's eye ...meanwhile the log in your own.
Does this mean ... we don't preach truth? No. It means we stand for Truth. We stand for God's Word. We preach all of it. We point out false doctrine. I don't think I can be the policeman of every church, nor should I. I think we preach the Word. In season and out of season. Let's reflect how we can be better at being Jesus' hands and feet and reaching our community for Christ ... and not this comparison game. Afterall, people matter, numbers matter, God matters. Eternity is at stake.

What if?
What if you changed the way you look at Church?
What if ... having a relationship with God was more than simply making Him a friend on facebook?
What if the church was truly equipped to be Jesus' Hands and Feet?
What is understanding the Bible was more about living Scripture than simply learning it?
What if people can grasp that God can guide their lives?
What if people really knew that God was a part of their story? Won't they be a part of His?
Church is more than about answers. It is about living, asking questions, and trying to change the World.
What if we started be the Church God wants us to be, today?
Whose with me?

Some Talk Shows have it wrong!!
Been listening to the controversy over Burning the Koran
and othernews
iIt is not only this "Guest" citing
"The thing to keep in mind that`s very important here is that the Koran to Muslims, it is not — it is not the same as the Bible to Christians. The Bible is a book written by men. It is acknowledged by Christians that it is written by men. It`s the story of Jesus"
But hearing other Talk show host saying that as if it were fact.
Some theologians may be believe that but to lump all Christians to this, is wrong, false and puts a False view of the Bible.
The Bible was not merely written by men. sorry it wasn't. It was inspired by God. Written by over 40 different individuals. (Perhaps one was a woman but that's another debate for another time) but there is one author, one Writer: God. The Bible is God's story to Man. It is about us. It is infallible, inerrant Word of God to say otherwise would be downplaying it. We're awed by the Word, inspired by it, but also should be terrified by it. I believe in all of it. If I didn't then it wouldn't be God's Word would it? I don't worship the Bible, but let its Words change me because it points me to the "Word that became Flesh."
The Guest's quote there is both right and wrong. We don't value the Bible, like we should. We have watered it down. We have marketed it. We have the men's, women's, children's pet's rock's food for living devotional baptist type bibles. (No wonder non-believers make fun of us?). The Koran cannot be compared to the Bible. Why? Because the Koran to Muslims and in Islam is as if from Allah himself; yet it isn't.(We could go into a more deeper debate of the perspective of Islam but I'll let that alone for now) The Bible is God's Word to man.
The Bible went through a canonization process:
Many modern Protestants point to the following four "Criteria for Canonicity" to justify the selection of the books that have been included in the New Testament:
1.Apostolic Origin — attributed to and based upon the preaching/teaching of the first-generation apostles (or their close companions).
2.Universal Acceptance — acknowledged by all major Christian communities in the ancient world (by the end of the 4th century) as well as accepted canon by Jewish authorities (for the Old Testament).
3.Liturgical Use — read publicly when early Christian communities gathered for the Lord's Supper (their weekly worship services).
4.Consistent Message — containing a theological outlook similar to or complementary to other accepted Christian writings.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talk show hosts need to stick to politics. This pandering and misunderstanding of what the Bible is, and is not is just adding confusion and sends a Wrong message about Christianity. Though I disagree with Terry Jones's antics (and his 15 minutes of fame). Let us get beyond this and continue to love our enemies, love God and be a witness to the world while proclaiming that the Bible is God's Word; not merely written by men but inspired by God.

Top 10 Gadgets for Ministry
People love gadgets. It seems in a lot of ways technology has helped enhance ministry. To do it more effectively. With cell phones, texting, the internet ... (Invented by Al Gore of course) there is a lot to do. But what gadgets should a church leader have to be effective?
Here are some suggestions:
I. A Cell phone. Use it to text, take pictures, surf the web, and of course make phone calls. You don't have to have the latest and greatest ... but use it wisely. Get a good data plan. Unlimited text, data, calls helps. Otherwise you'll be paying more in the long run. shop around.
II. A computer - preferably a laptop. (Now here is where some of my friends will get into the MAC vs. PC debate - but before you buy ask yourself what am I going to use it for? Do I need to invest in that much into something that become obsolete the moment I buy it? ) Most use laptops for word processing, documents, brochures, videos, and surfing the web. If you need to do more than that ..get others to do it for you. Delegate.
III. External Hard drive and flashdrives. (USB thumb drives) Sure with dropbox.com and even some online storage places (Carbonate etc) just make sure you have a source to back up your files. The Internet can crash, so can your computer (Yes even MACS have problems) putting your pictures just on facebook doesn't count)
IV. A Scanner. Something to scan documents, pictures and to efit them. I have a scanner that converts from jpg to pdf and vice versa.
V. A printer. Have a good printer. Investigate what the cost is. Sure the printer might be free, but how much is the ink? How soon do you need new ink cartridges. I have one printer that seems to eat ink for lunch. And another I buy the expensive cartridge but lasts me all year. So compare and shop. (sometimes you can even get a printer/ scanner combination)
VI. Video Camera. Preferably a Flip. A flip is basically a video camera for dummies. It has a "On" button" Record, play and delete button. Not too complicated ... so others can shoot videos for you, and the software is easy to use.
VII. A Camera. Take pictures. Lots of pictures. My flip and phone I use for pictures as well. Also it helps when you have someone in your church that enjoys photography and you can just drop those pictures into a slide presentation and show them on Sunday after the event.
VIII. MP3 Player. I use my Ipod to play videos, music etc.
IX. An E-reader. - I-pods touches, I-pads, Nooks, Kindles, I-phones ... make it easier to carry books, and especially God's Word with you now.
X. Various External Cords: Power surge strip, usb converters for laptop to TV and vice versa, plugs for mp3 player to sound system, video output for various devices have saved time. Sometimes I person says "Hey I found this video on youtube and saved it on my I-pad, or etc ...and like to play ..." having the available resources has saved some time.
Some other items:
Ink Cartridges.
Laminator.
External Speakers for your MP3 or computer.
DVD/ Blue Ray Player.
Any others you would suggest?
