Every week …. (when we can) one of the elders and myself go visiting. Whether its to the hospital or in some of people's homes.
Here are some suggestions to the Ministry of Presence.
1. Remember you are God's representative, His servant.
2. Talk about the Lord.
3. Make it casual, friendly, not stiff and formal.
4. Determine to bring comfort, joy, and encouragement. Hope.
5. Show love, concern, and deep interest. For family, friends.
6. Leave a card if no answer, or if visit at inappropriate time. (I've often come across patients asleep and best left them that way to get rest needed to recover)
7. Be sure visits are brief, better a good short visit than a long one - overwhelming the shutin or sick.
8. Depend upon God for guidance and what words to say, or when to just listen.
9. Endeavor to be God's leader, and point people to Jesus.
10. Read, quote the Bible, and always close in prayer.
